Transportation and Car Rental

Regarding the car rental options in South-East of Sicily, the choice to have it it depends on your plans. If you’re mainly staying in Syracuse, a car might not be necessary, as the city is walkable and offers plenty to see. For day trips to places like Vendicari, Noto, Modica, Ragusa, Etna, or Taormina, having a car could be convenient. Alternatively, you might consider arranging a pick-up from the airport and renting a car only for specific excursions or use buses to the nearby towns.

Parking in Syracuse

From Catania Airport:

The cheaper way to arrive in Syracuse from the airport is by bus (not the train at the moment)

There are many buses from the plaza in front of the airport, mostly hourly. You can check their timetable here: https://www.interbus.it (Italian). You will arrive at train station and from there you can walk to Ortigia area in about 10/15 minutes or you can take a cab.

If you arrive in the night unfortunately the only way is by private transfer.

If you arrive by car:

The Parking lots in Syracuse are regulated by colours lines painted on the street:

White is for free and you don't have to pay
Blue you have to pay (normally per hours) we recommend you an app for your phone call Easy Park
Yellow is just for residents (don’t park your car here)

MONDAY-FRIDAY from 19.00 to 2.00 in the morning,

SATURDAY from 17.00 to 2.00 in the morning,

SUNDAY and BANK HOLIDAYS from 10.00 to 2.00 in the morning:

The access to ORTIGIA by car has been completely limited and forbidden to NON Permanent Residents everyday except for TAXI.

Please be aware that in this time frame Ortigia is ONLY PEDESTRIAN. You will find an electronic information before the bridge with this text  ACCESSO ZTL SOLO CON PASS (Limited Traffic Zone Active): DO NOT PASS!

If you are staying in Cordari Penthouse or Casa del Forte 

If you arrive before 19.00 (MON-FRI) or before 17.30 (SAT-SUN) you can park your car at PARKING TALETE and also you can find some free parking lot (white lines painted in the street pavement) in Piazza delle Poste (see our City Map) and in Lungomare di Levante Elio Vittorini along Forte San Giovannello, or outside Ortigia before the bridge.

If you arrive after 19.00 (MON-FRI) or after 17.30 (SAT-SUN) we recommend you to park your car in the PARKING MOLO SAN ANTONIO P3 (cost 15 euros/24h) or before the bridge in free parking lots and take a taxi or a free bus or walk to the property (around 5-8 minutes walking distance).

In both Parking TALETE and San Antonio there is an option of a WEEKLY or MONTHLY PASS SCRATCH CARD that is some cases can be more convenient then the daily pass of 15 euros (weekly scratch card pass 50 euros, monthly scratch card pass 90 euros ). You can buy the weekly and monthly scratch card pass ONLY in OFFICIAL Tobacco Shops (Tabacchi - Tabaccherie in Italian, they have a T signage on black background) . We do our best to update this information, but sometimes is not possible and please understand is not depending on us the Parking system of the City :-)
